Habitat : Well-drained soil and full sun, but will grow in almost any soil.
Remarks : Native to North America, it has been introduced to Europe. It was introduced to France by Jean Robin in 1601, the royal botanist under Henry IV. It was introduced to the U.K. in the 1630's.
Black locust grows from Pennsylvania along the Appalachian Mountains to Northern Georgia and is also native to a small part of Arkansas and grows in the eastern and southeastern part of Canada. Black locust is one of the most widely transplanted of all native American trees in Europe. The tree has also been successfully transplanted to Asia, North Africa and New Zealand.
